Words of Love: Toronto Wedding at Storys Building, Ontario

A letter to Laura and Kyle…

Kyle is a thoughtful, curious, hardworking, and accomplished, affectionate man, still a bit mischievous, with a big heart who I'm so lucky to get to marry. In all the ways that are most important, I know I can rely on Kyle. I love that he cares deeply about his friends and family, that he doesn't take himself too seriously, and that he makes me laugh every day. We've both grown so much together over the last seven years as people and as partners, and I'm so proud of us.

Growing up, Kyle wasn't necessarily the poster child for good behavior. Now, fast forward to today, I am proud and pleasantly amazed at how far he's come. But his best achievement was meeting someone with Laura's ambition, compassion, and patience to put up with his antics while simultaneously bringing out the best in him. Laura, it's been such a pleasure getting to know you as an individual and as the perfect partner for our brother. You two couldn't be more perfect for one another, and I am confident you'll build an amazing life together.

Having a sister who is a built-in best friend is truly one of the greatest blessings in my life. Laura and I send each other about three thousand text messages a week. In fact, I rarely order food in a restaurant, pick an outfit, or really make any decision, big or small, without texting Laura first. She's a loyal friend and a caring doctor who is universally loved. I can't say she's the best, most devoted aunt to my kids, who both absolutely adore their Auntie Lolo. Being as close as I am with my sister, it was a relief when she chose a partner who is great company and has fit into our family with such ease. Anyone who has spent any time with Laura and Kyle knows what a great match these two are. I couldn't be more pleased to be celebrating their love today with all of you.

Laura and Kyle are here today to declare their love for each other publicly and to be joined in marriage. You fell in love by chance, but you're here today because you're making a choice to declare publicly before these witnesses that not only do you wish to share your lives, but that you have chosen to live out that commitment within the bonds of marriage.

Kyle, do you take Laura to be the wife of your days, the companion of your heart, and the friend of your life? With these words spoken and all those yet unspoken, do you wish to marry Laura and join your life with hers? "I do."

And Laura, do you take Kyle to be the husband of your days, the companion of your heart, and the friend of your life? To stand united in the face of adversity and bask together in the light of good fortune? With these words spoken and all those yet unspoken, do you wish to marry Kyle and join your life with his? "I do."

So, family and friends, Laura and Kyle have made their vows to each other in our presence and have confirmed their promises by the joining of hands and the exchanging of rings. Therefore, by the authority given me by this province, I pronounce that they are now husband and wife. Now, Kyle, you may break the glass and kiss your bride.

When I was younger, navigating life's many challenges, my dad was careful never to offer unsolicited advice. He's been a fantastic role model, personally and professionally, for both me and Kyle. I'm very proud to be his daughter, and I'm so grateful that he's found such a wonderful partner in Julie. Kyle and I are lucky that our future kids will get to call her grandmother as well.

We have watched Laura and Kyle grow as a couple. I have no doubt that they will build a strong and beautiful life together. Laura and Kyle, as you start your new chapter of your lives, my wish for you is to love and laugh and continue to grow as individuals and as a team. Always be there for one another, be patient and understanding. Embrace every moment together and never forget why you fell in love in the first place. May your love for each other continue to grow stronger with each passing day. We want you to know that our hearts overflow with love and support for the journey ahead.
