A letter to Kaitlyn and Jordan…

Jordan, it has been roughly 1,967 days and 47,208 hours since you knocked on my parents' front door for our very first date. I still remember nervously opening that door and seeing that big smile as if it were yesterday. If this were a movie, I’d say that was the moment I knew my life was about to change forever. But in reality, my 22-year-old self, fresh out of university, could hardly imagine how a simple froyo date would come to mean so much.

You are the kindest, most genuine soul I have ever met. I cherish your sweetness, your patience, how you make me laugh until it hurts, and your readiness to lend a helping hand always. But most of all, I adore your silly, childlike wonder that makes life feel so pure and magical.

From the moment you were born, you have brought so much joy, and love, and energy into our lives. Watching you grow up has been one of my greatest blessings. Over the years, many people have come up to me and commented on how beautiful Kaitlyn is. I thank them, of course, but I hasten to add that her real beauty is on the inside. Kaitlyn, you have grown into a remarkable woman. You’ve always been kind, empathetic, thoughtful, incredibly strong, intelligent, and resourceful. And today, as you embark on this new journey with Jordan, I couldn’t be prouder of the person you’ve become.

Just like that, our son is a married man. It feels like just yesterday he was a toddler, and now we’re here celebrating his journey into marriage. Seeing Jordan and Kaitlyn together fills our hearts with immense joy and pride. They are best friends who support and uplift each other. They aren’t afraid to unleash their inner child, to laugh, and be silly. We love you both very much and wish you a lifetime filled with the same love you enjoy and share today.

Jordan and I met in grade 10 math class. We were partners in crime in almost everything fromBMXing, snowboarding, pyromania, school—you name it. Jordan, we’ve had some great adventures together, and now you’ve met this beautiful woman who sits beside you tonight. You care for everyone around you, and it’s amazing to see someone who does the same for you. You two are truly each other’s best friends and biggest supporters. Kaitlyn, I hope you enjoy having Jordan as your best friend for the rest of your life because he’s been amazing for the last fifteen years.

Ladies and gentlemen, we gather here today to celebrate the love and union of Jordan and Kaitlyn. Despite years of near misses, the universe knew when was the right moment for them to find each other. The journey from strangers to soulmates is a beautiful reminder that true love often finds us when we least expect it.

Jordan, I promise to support your wildest dreams, no matter their size or where they may lead us. I promise to lift you on the toughest days without hesitation. I promise to make you smile wide and laugh often with my outrageous voices and embarrassing dance moves. Today, I get to tie the knot—or the invisible string—and marry my best friend, my rock, my safe space, and my home.

Kaitlyn, I knew we were meant to be together the moment neither of us wanted the first day to end. A thought I’ll never forget: How could this incredibly beautiful woman sitting across from me also be the most amazing person I’ve ever met? Today, seeing you, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude that I get to spend forever with someone so extraordinary. I promise to love you more every single day and to always stand by you through everything life throws our way. I promise to always have morning coffees and go for long walks with you to talk about our plans and dreams for an amazing life together. I promise to love you forever and always because, like the sun and the moon, our love was written in the stars.

“With this ring, I thee wed.”

“With this ring, I thee wed.”

Jordan and I met in our grade 9 religion class, first year of high school. Adrien, Jordan’s best man, and I used to joke that there was no way in hell that Jordan could find anyone who could put up with him. Entering the beautiful Kaitlyn. I may not have known Kaitlyn for a lifetime, but I knew the moment I met her that we would have the time of our lives building this friendship together. Kaitlyn is patient, she is effortless, she is the light you look for when the world suddenly turns dark.

I remember in a tender moment when it was just us two girls after they had moved in together. Kaitlyn told me that Jordan was home for her. It was then I knew Kaitlyn had found the one, and Jordan the same. But that no matter where they go in this world together, as long as they are together, they’ll always be home.

I wasn’t sure whether I’d recount our after-school arguments, our legendary backyard pool parties, or even drinking enough tequila to sedate a hippopotamus in the hot tub with the Puerto Ricans. Rather, I’d like to take a moment to talk about how blessed we are to have you as our older sister. You’re someone that radiates positivity, that gives great advice, and loves unconditionally, to name just a few of your many qualities.

Jordan, Jordan, Jordan since I’ve known you, I’ve had the utmost respect for you. I even remember telling Kaitlyn, “I like him—you better not mess this up.” You’re one of the most stand-up guys I know, and I’m excited for our friendship and brotherhood to continue to grow.

When Kaitlyn was born, I was the happiest man alive, but I still had a dream: have three boys. Finally, today, my dream came true. I have my beautiful Kaitlyn and my three greatest boys.

Jordan is always striving to grow—not only in his field but as a human. He consistently reminds me and those around him that we are all works in progress. For anyone who knows Jordan, when he commits, he’s all in—whether it’s an idea, a career, or love. The day that he had his first date with Kaitlyn, we could tell right away this was something special.

To the big brother I’ve always looked up to: Jordan, you have such a huge heart and a true gift to uplift and inspire those around you. You are truly the big brother anyone would be lucky to have. J and K, I love you guys, and I love seeing the way you love each other. It is truly a healing experience. May you find each other in this endless love in every lifetime you live.
