A letter to Sophia and Gordon…
Dearest Gordon, it's impossible to sum up in words the person that you are to me. I've never known a love more strong and steadfast as yours. You're the most kind, considerate, and genuine person I've ever met. You're my greatest source of happiness. From our first Toronto one-bedroom rental to the Mississauga apartment with cardboard shelves to settling down in London, nothing gives me greater joy than building a life together with you.
Since high school, Sophia and I have never lived in the same city. Yet the fact that I am up here tonight shows that when it comes to friendship, distance is no obstacle for Sophia. Sophia is the friend who was always there when it truly mattered. I cannot imagine a more perfect match. It has been a true honour to witness your long love grow after all these years.
Growing up as Gordo's little sister, I always wanted to be like Gordo ever since I could remember. Not only is he one of the most intelligent people I know, but his work ethic never ceases to amaze me. Gordo has always been the superstar of our Ngo family, and he's one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life. He will never turn down a chance to offer a helping hand. The kindness Gordo shows others is truly amazing. Today, I gain not only a sister-in-law but a new friend who my brother is sharing a new life adventure with.
Sophia is one of the two precious investments that I've nurtured with my lifelong love and care. As she embarks on this new chapter with Gordon, I extend my heartfilled wish: may God recognize the value of this investment. May the two investments intertwine, amplify, and flourish.
Today, we gather to celebrate the joyous union of Sophia and Gordon. Their decision to marry is a testament to the incredible power of love. We are here to honour their commitment, share in their laughter, raise our glasses in celebration, and embark with them on their journey of marriage. Today is a day of joy and gratitude with a touch of magic as we witness the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. Let us cherish their love, applaud their commitment, and stand united in celebrating their extraordinary love story.
Sophia and Gordon, you have come here today to mark the beginning of what will be and also to celebrate what already is. I'm sure that in your everyday moments together, you have enjoyed many conversations, and I expect that you've talked about your hopes, your promises, your past hurts, your values, your dreams.
Sophia, the greatest comfort is to sit with you on a Saturday's morning, the greatest joy to laugh with you about things unnoticed, and the greatest adventure to learn and love with you. You are a wise counselor, a resourceful partner, a patient listener, a creative artist, and my greatest cheerleader. More importantly, you put up with my experimental cooking, my spider relocation program, my inordinate love of Star Trek and Star Wars lore, my love of OLED technology as you mentioned. It is a privilege to share these years of personal growth with you. It is fitting that our couple name is GPS, as you are the compass to my map and the navigator with whom I am excited to plot this next course of our lives.
No one knows how to make me laugh and give me that daily dose of small age happiness like you do. You're the greatest joy extractor I've ever known. We also have the gift of knowing each other for so long, and nothing gives me more capital H happiness than supporting each other's growth and witnessing you become the doctor that you have become. As we enter this new chapter, I promise to treat you with compassion rather than fairness, because we are a team today, tomorrow, and always. I promise to love and cherish you for the rest of my life, because I know exactly how lucky I am to have found such an incredible man as you.
Gordon and Sophia have made their vows to each other in our presence and have confirmed their vows by the joining of hands and the exchange of rings. I now pronounce that you are husband and wife.
At the time, my older sister seemed to be the smartest person in the world. But as I spend more time with her, I know that while she might not have all of life's questions figured out, she has figured out one very important thing, and that's how to have a beautiful and fulfilling life. As you move forward in this new chapter of your lives, I hope you both find peace in each other's company, you love each other the way you want to be loved, and you live the most happy and beautiful and fulfilling and wonderful life together.
We've been waiting for this moment for a very long time—to welcome Sophia to the family. It is all because you started back in high school fifteen years ago, so without further ado, we would like to wish Sophia and Gordon a lifetime of happiness together.
A relationship is not destiny or fate. It is conscious effort. It is a choice that we make every day to love and cherish each other's presence. I have seen that choice made every day of your lives, and on this special day where we celebrate your happiness, I am honoured to be able to express this on behalf of our friend group and, of course, everyone else here.
